Dear Township Residents and Friends,
Texas Township has recently completed the process to write a new Five Year Recreation Plan. Citizen input sessions that were held in January made it clear that residents desired additional non-motorized trail facilities. Additionally, citizens also indicated a desire to construct a trailhead staging area in conjunction with the new, permanent open-air community or farmer's market building coming this spring.
To assist with funding some of these opportunities, Texas Township will be applying for a Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment Trust Fund grant. The grant can help fund a trail linkage between the farmer's market site and Al Sabo Well Preserve; restroom facilities; a playground adjacent to the new farmer's market building; and other amenities. The conceptual trail would also connect to Texas Drive Park. The township Parks Committee views this trail connection as a first phase; the ultimate objective is to provide additional meaningful linkages within the Township and to adjacent communities, and beyond.
Part of the application process requires that we also submit documented community support. Your input is crucial to the success of this project and there are two ways you can help.
First, we are in need of letters of support from the community pertaining to the grant proposal. Submissions can include information about how you feel this project could benefit you and your community. These letters should be addressed to Dave Healy, Township Supervisor. You can send it directly to the Township office at 7110 West Q Ave. or email it back to me at irongirl@me.com and I will submit it to the Grant Management staff.
Also, on Thursday, March 25, at 7pm there will be a public community meeting to discuss the grant application at the Township Hall. Please come and invite friends and neighbors. This is also a required aspect of our grant to gather further input from residents. You may submit your letter of support at that meeting as well.
If you have any additional questions about the project you can contact myself or the Township Trustee, Erin Hoogendyk at erinhoogendyk@gmail.com.
Thanks you in advance for your support on the project and the future of your community.
Sincerely yours,
Amy Rummel
