Eagle Lake – Aquatic Plant Control 2011

The Eagle Lake aquatic plant control program is conducted under the authority of the P.A. 188 of 1954, by the Charter Township of Texas. Oversight and inspections of contract work are conducted by the lake management consultant, Progressive AE. Please feel free to contact Progressive AE at 616-361-2664 if you have specific questions regarding the program. Some highlights of the 2011 season are as follows:

·         Five surveys of Eagle Lake were conducted between early May and early September by aquatic biologists from Progressive. These surveys were used to assess the plant community and direct and inspect work done by the plant control contractor.

·         PLM Lake and Land Management Corp. was retained as the herbicide application company for the 2011 season after being awarded the contract during a competitive bid process.

·         A total of five herbicide treatments were conducted by PLM during 2011. The primary targets of the herbicide treatments were the exotic invasive species, Eurasian milfoil and curly-leaf pondweed, as well as select treatments of nuisance native plants.

·         Over 122 tons (244,000 pounds) of aquatic plants were removed from the lake via the mechanical harvesters in late May through early June.

·         A total of approximately $44,000 was spent during the 2011 season on aquatic plant control (including administration and oversight) on Eagle Lake.
