The Pump
The pump and well was worked on in the fall of 2004. We cleaned the screen of the well and upgraded the pump motor which nearly tripled our capacity to pump water. This is very exciting as it will allow us to pump more water into the lake. The new capacity is comparable to the pumps at both Crooked and Long lake.
Caution: Ice near the pump channel may not be as thick as the rest of the lake.
The pump was installed in 1965, shortly after the lake was at it lowest recorded level. Some residents still remember walking completely across lakes 1 & 2 with no water in site. We thank those that had the vision to install the pump so long ago. It has truly been a blessing to have it in place the last 7 years.
Pump operation costs for 24/7 operation is approximately $1800 per month. Our budget has not allowed for us to run the pump for a continuous 12 months. The ELTA board meets regularly to make a determination whether the pump should remain on or not. We welcome your feed back (good or bad) on the lake level.
Annual pump maintenance costs from $200-500 depending on any parts that may need to be replaced.
In 2004, the ELTA board is discussing a overhaul to our existing well and pump. Our current capacity is about 500 Gallons/Minute. As an example, Crooked Lake's new pump is approximately 1400 Gallons/Minute. Several contractors feel confident that if we clean our well and screen and increase the horse power of the pump, we will be able to get our capacity up to 1400 Gallons/Minute. ELTA is considering this improvement for several reasons. Our current capacity will not keep the lake from dropping in summer heat. A higher capacity well will be more efficient and save us money in electricity costs.
